HEIC (HEIF) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It is smaller than JPG at similar quality, but many Windows apps, websites and printers cannot open it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. HEIC files are decoded and converted in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server.

Does converting to JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so a little detail is always lost. At the default quality of 90 the difference is rarely visible; raise the slider for more detail or lower it for smaller files.

What happens to Live Photos and bursts?

A HEIC can hold several images. The converter exports the main still image; the motion part of a Live Photo is a separate video file and is not included.

Is the photo metadata kept?

No. The JPG holds the pixels only, so EXIF data such as the camera, date and GPS location is not copied.
